Category: Chuhin plus
Style: Root over rock
Size: Height of the tree 72 cm / 28.35"
Potter: Walsall Ceramics

History: Acquired in 1986 as an immature tree recently set over stone. Styling the tree really started in around 1989 and continues to this day. After trying a range of different style pots over the years I settled on the dark Walsall oval to highlight the root bark. The tree lives happily within the shallow oval pot and was last re-potted this spring. The branching and canopy shape has been developed more in recent years with regard to its winter image.

History: This tree was previously owned by a hobbyist on the West Coast of Scotland who passed away in 2015. The immediate priority was for the tree to regain health which took a couple of years, after which the emphasis has been on recapturing what is a rather elegant style.

History: I bought this tree as collected raw material from Bob Kirby at Rockery Bonsai, Bristol in about 1995. John Pitt made me a crescent pot which suited the tree well for several years until a flying parasol from a neighbour’s garden knocked the tree from its stand! The pot was smashed and the tree lost a small branch, so Tony Oswin came to my rescue and made this interesting and unique pot.

Species: Blackthorn (Prunus Spinosa)
Origin: UK, Yamadori
Category: Chuhin
Style: Mother and Son
Size: Height of the tree 36cm / 14"
Potter: Walsall
Stand: None
History: Dug up as a stump from a raised bank at a lake in 2014. It had been continually cut back a part of fishery maintainance. It popped buds everywhere so regrew selected branches. Flowered 2018 and gets more flowers every year. After a few discussions I have decided it may be a naturally occuring hybrid as the flowers are slightly larger than normal Blackthorn and the growth does not seem typical of Blackthorn. It does have the nice rough black bark on the lower portion though
History: purchased the tree in about 2012 from Kaizen Bonsai
